DEVOUT BOND

A Fellowship of Religious Scholars & Sacred Chroniclers

Keeping the names, feast days and quiet histories of congregations in the light.

“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”

Genesis 1:3

Our Work

☩

The Registers

Volunteers transcribe baptismal, marriage and burial books from parishes large and small, so every line outlives its paper.

❖

The Concordance

A cross-reference of patron saints, feast days, bell foundries, chapel dedications and the orders that served them.

✺

The Digital Scriptorium

Our scholars study how sacred records are republished online, gathering public listings with careful crawlers and weighing each aggregator's copy against the original.

✧

The Lantern Letters

A seasonal bulletin of findings, appeals for lost ledgers, and notices from correspondents in the field.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Psalm 119:105

Fellowship Correspondence

Every member of the Fellowship, whether a theologian, a historian of religion, a diocesan clerk or a volunteer with a shoebox of photographs, is given a personal address at devout.bond. Our work is correspondence-heavy: we write to archives and chanceries, subscribe to record indexes and genealogy services, register with directories, open-data portals and public-records aggregators, and join the mailing lists of journals and parishes. A personal address keeps all of it in order and lets each service know whom it is writing to.

If a message, subscription or registration reached you from a @devout.bond address, it was almost certainly sent by one of our scholars in the course of research.

Questions, corrections and requests for removal are read by our Secretary, who answers by candlelight, usually within a week.

Questions Often Asked

Which tradition does the Fellowship belong to?

Many. Our members are scholars, clergy and lay readers of various faiths, gathered by a shared reverence for sacred texts, places and records.

Why do your members use data aggregators and scrapers?

Much of the world's religious record now lives in scattered online listings: parish directories, memorial indexes, clergy lists, closure notices. Our scholars gather these with careful, rate-limited tools that honor each site's rules, then compare the aggregators' copies against the originals so errors can be traced and corrected.

Do you hold private information about congregants?

We transcribe only what parishes have already made public or released to us, and we withdraw any entry on request.

How does one join?

Write to the Secretary with the parish, text or collection you wish to tend. Fellowship addresses are granted to active members.

“The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: the Lord make his face shine upon thee.”
